From hype to type. π
Welcome back! This is issue #2 of tiptoptypetips. There's about 500 people reading this right now, and that, my friends (too soon?), is bollocks. π€―
So, thanks again for your interest in tttt, I really appreciate the support.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD & INSTALL FONTS. So, let's say you're convinced (obviously) that your collection could do with some font upgrades. How do you go from something you like to something you can type? Let's break this down. And, I know the guidethrough above is on MacOS, (aka what a snob) but don't worry I'll cover Windows too. I've picked Poppins from the Google Fonts collection to take you through the process.
Step I: Head over to Google Fonts (or anywhere that has open-source fonts to download) and find yourself the typeface of your choosing or Poppins for the sake of this guide.
Step II: Click the red plus button beside Poppins and a black tab will appear below. Hit the black tab and you'll see the download icon on the top-right. Click to download your font files.
Step III: Click the downloaded files so they unzip and appear as .ttf or .otf files.
Step IV (Windows folk): Select all files that you got after extracting the .zip file (except .txt file), right-click, click Install to add to your font collection on your PC.
Step IV (Mac bros): Drag and drop the font files into your Mac's 'Font Book'.
Step V: You're actually ready to go. To try them out, go into any of your text or design applications like Word, Pages or Photoshop and you'll find Poppins in your Font dropdown. And that's it! Use them like you would any font that was pre-installed into your device.
π Face of the Week π
BRAND NEW ROMAN. Every week, I'll share a new typeface I find that's either free-to-use or just so cool, I hope you gift it to me. This week's (type)face is Brand New Romanβ seemingly completely useless but also soOper cool.
Brand New Roman is a typeface designed by Hello Velocity that uses iconic letterforms from famous brands' logos. Now, all your content can be sponsored content, and sponsored by everybody. But, If youβre sponsored by everybody, are you really sponsored by nobody? Try it out on their website or install using what I hope you learnt today.

WINGDINGS.
WHY. ON. EARTH. DOES. THE. WINGDINGS. FONT. EXIST? And what even are dingbats? The font made entirely out of symbols.
As a means of writing sentences, Wingdings fails β but that was never its purpose. It was created to be used as a unique tool for the pre-internet era. Akin to emojis, but with even more utility. Check out this great video by Vox.
